Remote Actions supported by Hexnode – A platform-wise comparison

Remote actions are instantaneous commands executed on the devices managed from the Hexnode MDM portal. These actions enable the administrator to perform remote management operations across devices, users, groups and domains within an enterprise. Actions available on the endpoints vary with OS platforms and device configurations. Based on the requirement, the organizations can selectively choose the devices individually or in bulk to execute actions on them. Here is the platform-specific compatibility of remote actions supported by Hexnode.

Scan Device Scan Device action fetches basic details of the enrolled devices. Information like battery percentage, list of installed apps, device details, etc. are updated in the portal based on each action deployed.

Scan Device Location This action is initiated to fetch the real-time location of the device. Admin can perform this action only if a location tracking policy is associated with the device.

Lock Device This feature is to help admins to lock devices so that only people with the device password can unlock them.

Clear Password This feature lets the admin remove the device password. This becomes useful when employees forget the password they set or leave the organization without removing the password from their work devices.

Change Owner This action enables the admin to reassign a device to a different user. On doing so, the policies and apps associated with the previous user will be removed and newer ones will be associated with the device.

Edit Device Attributes Having details of the enrolled devices in the portal helps the admin to manage them easily. Edit Device Attributes lets the admin add/edit the device name, asset tag, department, ownership type, device notes, and description of the devices in bulk.

Wipe Device This action will remove all the data and managed apps from the device.

Execute Custom Script This feature lets the admin control devices remotely by deploying custom scripts. The script will contain commands that will be executed on the device.

Change Ownership The admin can change the ownership of a device from corporate to personal (or vice-versa).

Enable Lost Mode This feature lets admins lock down the device and track its location. This will ensure that no one uses the device when it gets stolen/misplaced. It will also help to retrieve the phone faster.

Disable Lost Mode Once the device is retrieved, the admin can disable lost mode and restore normalcy.

Rename Device This feature lets the admin set a name for the device. This name will be reflected on the device and in the portal. You can use wildcards when naming a device.

Remote Ring The admin can initiate this action to make the device play a sound even if the device is muted. This will help to locate the device if it is misplaced.

Clear Activation Lock This can prove useful when an employee leaves the organization without signing out of his Apple ID. The Activation Lock feature of Apple necessitates the user to log in to iCloud account that was previously configured on the device during the device startup process. Using this feature, admins can reset the device and continue to set it up without signing into the previously configured iCloud account.
