How to Configure Screensaver for macOS devices using Hexnode MDM

Screensavers serves the users with either a blank screen or a moving pattern or even pictures. Apart from this, they are used for the purpose of securing the device by providing a password to re-access the device. Hexnode MDM enables you to setup Screensavers for macOS devices.

To Configure Screensaver

  1. Login to your Hexnode portal.
  2. Go to Policies.
  3. Select an existing policy or create a new one by clicking on New Policy.
  4. From macOS Settings select Screensaver and click on Configure.
  5. You will have the following options to be configured.

    Settings Description
    Enable Screensaver Check this option to enable screensaver on your macOS device.
    Login window screensaver idle time
    (Works only when Enable Screensaver is checked)
    You can choose the time of inactivity for the login window before the activation of the screensaver. The value could be 5 sec, 30 sec, 1 min or 5 min.
    Screensaver idle time
    (Works only when Enable Screensaver is checked)
    You can choose the time of inactivity once device remains idle before the activation of the screensaver. The value could be 5 sec, 30 sec, 1 min or 5 min.
    Require password to unlock the screen
    (Works only when Enable Screensaver is checked)
    (Supported only on macOS 10.13 and later versions.)
    Check this option to enable the password to wake the device from screensaver / sleep.
    Set delay for password prompt
    (Works only when Require password to unlock the screen is checked)
    (Supported only on macOS 10.13 and later versions.)
    You can choose the time of inactivity before the password prompt to unlock the screen appears. The value can be set as immediately, 5 sec, 30 sec, 1 min or 5 min.

    Once the options are configured, you can associate the policy to devices.

    To Associate Policies to Devices / Groups.

    If the policy has not yet been saved.

    1. Navigate to Policy Targets.
    2. Click on +Add Devices.
    3. Select the devices and click OK.
    4. Click on Save to apply the policies to devices.

    Apart from devices, you can also associate the policies to device groups, user and user groups from Policy Targets.

    If the policy has been saved, you can associate it by another method.

    1. From Policies, check the policies to be associated.
    2. Click on Manage → Associate Targets and select the devices.
    3. Click on Associate to apply policy to the devices.
