How to configure Application Configuration for iOS and Android devices with Hexnode MDM?

With Hexnode, the Admin can pre-configure in-app settings thereby eliminating the need for users to set up apps for first-time use. The set of variables that can be configured depends on the provisions built-in by the app developer.

App Configuration for iOS devices

To configure App configuration for iOS devices,

  1. Login to your Hexnode portal.
  2. Go to Apps tab > Click on the app for which you have to define the configuration.
  3. Click on the Settings drop down (gear icon) on the top-right corner of the app details box > Click on App Configuration.
  4. Check the Update App Configuration box.
  5. Download the sample XML file to get the exact format to be followed while preparing the app configuration file.
  6. Click on Choose the XML file and upload the XML file > Save.

App Configuration for Android devices

For Android devices app configuration can be done only if the organization and devices are enrolled in Android for Work.

To configure a work app,

  1. Login to your Hexnode portal.
  2. Navigate to Policies tab.
  3. Select an existing policy or create a new one by clicking New Policy.
  4. From Android > App Management, select App Configurations, and click Configure.
  5. Click on Add new configuration > Select the work app.
  6. Configure the app > Click Done.
  7. Go to Policy Targets > Associate the Policy to the target Devices/ Device Groups/Users/User Groups/Domains > Click Save.

Notes:

  • Apps with at least one configuration added are shown in the list of configured apps.
  • App configurations can be applied only to those apps which support such configurations. ‘No configuration found’ message will be displayed when we try to configure non-supporting apps.
