How to set Wallpaper on Linux devices

Setting wallpapers on company devices is a useful feature when it comes to helping organizations to showcase their brand logos or images on the user’s devices. This device customization can be achieved on an extensive scale with the help of a Unified Endpoint Management (UEM) solution like Hexnode.

With Hexnode UEM, IT admins are able to remotely set wallpapers across Linux devices in the organization from a single portal, eliminating the need for any user intervention. This makes the wallpaper set-up process hassle-free and streamlined across devices.

Setting wallpapers on Linux devices

  1. Login to your Hexnode UEM portal.
  2. Navigate to Policies > New policy and assign a suitable name for the policy. You can also select an existing policy.
  3. Go to Linux > Configurations > Wallpaper.
  4. You can choose any one of the two options by which the image can be selected:
    • Add Folder/File, to add the image file or folder existing on any location on the target device. You are required to provide its path on the device.
    • Add Image, to select the image uploaded in the portal. You can upload images from your device to the portal by clicking on the Choose file to add the image, followed by the Upload button.
  5. On selecting the image, you can set the specifications of the image using the following options:
    • Image Adjustment: This setting specifies how the image is adjusted on the screen. You can choose the options – Wallpaper, Centered, Scaled, Stretched, Zoom, or Spanned.
    • Image Opacity: A value can be set ranging from 0 to 100, specifying the opacity level of the image that determines how transparent it should be.
  6. Furthermore, you can also choose to enable or disable the option Show desktop icons. If it is unchecked, the desktop icons will be hidden.
  7. Click Configure.

Associate the policy with target entities

If you haven’t saved the policy,

  1. Navigate to Policy Targets.
  2. Select the required Devices, Users, Device Groups, User Groups or Domains.
  3. Click on Save.

If you have already saved the policy,

  1. Navigate to Policies > My Policies and select the required policy.
  2. Click on Manage > Associate Targets.
  3. Select the required Devices, Users, Device Groups, User Groups or Domains.
  4. Click on Associate.
