How to lock an Apple TV onto single app mode

Single app kiosk mode restricts Apple TV usage to a single app. Devices in single app mode run a single application, serving a specific purpose. As per the enterprise requirements, admins can set up an in-house app or a store app in Apple TV’s app Kiosk.

Notes:

  • This feature is available on Enterprise, Ultimate and, Ultra subscription plans.
  • For an Apple TV to be put in single app mode, it needs to be supervised.
  • Store apps cannot be deployed to Apple TVs from the Hexnode portal. However, store apps already installed on the devices can be added to a single app kiosk.

Create Single App Kiosk policy for Apple TV

Warning:

  • You can apply only one kiosk profile to an Apple TV at a time.
  • Before adding an app to the kiosk mode, ensure that the app is installed on the device.
  • Failure to do so will result in freezing the Apple TV in an inoperable mode. To recover the device, you will have to remove the kiosk profile from the device.
  • While in single app mode, if the device loses network, you cannot make any further changes remotely on Apple TV from the Hexnode UEM console.

  1. Login to your Hexnode UEM portal.
  2. Go to Policies.
  3. Select an existing policy or create a new one by clicking on New Blank Policy.
  4. From Kiosk Lockdown, select Apple TV Kiosk Lockdown – Single App and click on Configure.
  5. Click on the + icon and select the app from the list.

Hexnode UEM enables you to enforce additional restrictions for Apple TV Kiosk. However, these features are supported by devices with OS version 10.2 and above.
