How to configure AirPlay destination for Mac?

AirPlay allows users to stream/share content from Apple devices to Apple TV, a compatible smart TV, or Mac. With AirPlay, users can stream video, music, photos or mirror the device screens. On macOS devices, AirPlay allows users to mirror their screens, stream music, or play media to another Mac or Apple TV. When mirroring from one Mac to another Mac or Apple TV on the same Wi-Fi network, users authenticate with the destination’s AirPlay password. Hexnode’s AirPlay policy allows IT admins to add AirPlay destinations for Mac, where you can specify their AirPlay destination passwords and MAC addresses. After configuring the AirPlay policy on a Mac, users can mirror screens or media to approved AirPlay destinations when they’re available and on the same Wi-Fi network. Users can seamlessly mirror the screen or stream media without entering the password to the destination devices.

Notes:

  • This feature is available only on Ultimate and Ultra subscription plans.
  • This feature is supported on macOS versions 10.10 and above.

Device asks for password to AirPlay if you do not configure AirPlay destinations for Mac

After associating the policy, Mac will automatically connect to the configured device without requiring a password, if available and connected to the same Wi-Fi network.

Note:

If the firewall is configured on the device that is set as the AirPlay destination, it blocks all incoming AirPlay requests and may prevent AirPlay.
