Install Android App Remotely with MDM

With Hexnode MDM, you can install remotely, either an app from Google Play or an Enterprise app to multiple devices. You can either add apps to the console to have it installed easily at a later stage or install apps directly from the Play Store.

Add Apps from Google Play

To add an app from Google Play,

Method 1: Add app to MDM console

Add an app to MDM console to have it quickly installed on selected devices at a later stage.

  1. Go to Admin > App Settings.
  2. Select +Add apps > Store App.
  3. Uncheck Apple.
  4. Search the app using the search box.
  5. To add an app, click on the Add button to the right of the required app.
  6. Click Done, when you’re done.

Method 2: Install an app from Google Play directly to selected devices.

  1. Go to Management and select devices.
  2. Manage > Install application.
  3. Click on Public Store tab > Android radio button and search for apps.
  4. Check all apps required > Done.

Method 3: Install app directly from Google Play to a single device.

  1. Go to Management and click on the device name.
  2. Actions > Install Application.
  3. Click on Public Store tab and search for apps.
  4. Check all apps required > Done.

Add Enterprise Apps

To add an enterprise app,

  1. Go to Admin > App settings.
  2. Select +Add apps > Enterprise app.
  3. Select the platform.
  4. Provide a name for the app.
  5. Click on Choose File button and select an APK file.
  6. Select a category available from the list. To add missing categories, Press the add (+) button and type in the category.
  7. Give a description of the app in Description text box.
  8. There’ll be two advanced settings – Remove on Disenroll and Prevent App Backup.
    • Remove on Disenroll option will uninstall the Enterprise app if the device is disenrolled.
    • Prevent App Backup will prevent the app data from backing up.

Install Apps

Two ways to install any previously added app(s):

  • Go to Management, select device(s) > Manage > Install application. Select the app(s) from list > Done.
  • Go to Management and click on a device name. Proceed to Actions > Install application. Select the app(s) from list > Done.

You can choose to display iOS apps or Android apps only, while you are in the app selection window.

Install Apps from Policies

You can add an app from Policies.

Method 1: Set mandatory apps.

  1. Go to Policies and name it.
  2. Click on App Management tab > Mandatory Apps > +Add > select Add Apps or Add Group.
  3. Select the apps already added to Admin > App settings. If you’ve created an App Group at Admin > App settings > App groups, then select the app group from the list.

Method 2: Select an app catalog.

  1. Go to Policies and name it.
  2. Click on App Management tab > Catalogue > Add Catalogues.
  3. Select the catalogs with Enterprise apps you need to add, and click on Done.

Associate the policy to target devices and the apps will be added to the devices.
