Deploy Zebra label format or template for printers

What is a label format or template?

A label format, or template, is a predesigned layout that tells a Zebra printer how a label should look. It defines the placement of text, barcodes, spacing and any graphics or logos. In simple terms, it acts as the printer’s design file for producing consistent labels.

Why are templates important for Zebra printers?

Templates are needed because they save time and reduce errors. Instead of recreating the layout for every print job, the printer uses the same ready-made design. This keeps labels consistent across multiple printers and helps prevent misprints that can interrupt workflows in warehouses, retail counters or shipping stations.

How does Hexnode help with deploying label templates?

Without Hexnode, an IT admin would need to physically access each printer and connect it to a computer to load templates. Using Hexnode’s Deploy Templates remote action, the template can be sent directly to the printer over the network. This lets you deliver the required label format to printers in different locations without any on-site setup.

Note:

This feature is only supported on Zebra printers running LinkOS 5.0 and above.

How can IT admins deploy label formats to Zebra printers with Hexnode UEM?

To deploy a custom label format or template to a Zebra printer:

  1. Open your Hexnode UEM portal and go to Manage > Devices.
  2. Select the Zebra printer you want to deploy the template to.
  3. Select Actions > Deployments > Deploy Templates.

Deploy Zebra label format or template for printers

    • If Upload file is selected, click on Choose file to select the corresponding template file from the device.
    • If Hexnode repository is selected, choose the template file that was previously uploaded in the Content tab in the Hexnode UEM portal.
    Note:

Supported template formats include .zpl, .nrd, .txt, .lbl and .zbi.

  5. The File name will be auto populated based on the name of the template file.
  6. Delete existing files from device: If you enable this option, any file on the printer with the same name and format as the one you’re deploying will be removed before the new file is added.
  7. Click Done to deploy the label format/template.
  8. Navigate to the Action History sub-tab to view the execution status of the action.

Once deployed, the new label format/template appears in the printer’s available templates list and can be used for printing.
