How to set up an auto launch app in Android Kiosk mode with MDM

Hexnode MDM enables adding a number of apps in Android Kiosk mode. Unlike iOS, which automatically launches the app that was set as Kiosk, Android shows the app or the group of apps in the launcher. The Android Kiosk mode in Hexnode MDM makes it possible to set an app as a default app. By doing so, the app launches itself automatically upon the policy application.

This makes it possible for enterprises to specify the app which has high priority among a number of apps. Making an app default doesn’t restrict access to other Kiosk apps.

Setting up the auto launch app

  1. Go to Policies → Android Settings → Kiosk Mode.
  2. Click Configure.
  3. Select the app(s) you want to add in the Kiosk mode.
  4. Click on the settings button (3 vertical dots) on the side of the App you want to set as default.
  5. Select the Auto Launch option from the drop down list. An icon of a push pin appears on the app that was set default.
  6. Click Save.

When the device opens up in Kiosk mode, this default app will open automatically. You can press the back button and access other apps too. If the launcher screen stays on for 30 seconds without any apps open, the default app will open automatically.

Note: Only one app can be set as the default app.
