How to set up Application Configurations for devices?

Remotely configure specific settings within an app to suit the needs of your organization.
Preconfigure these application settings for apps before pushing it to the devices. The set of variables that can be configured depends on the provisions built-in by the app developer.

App configuration is supported on Android, iOS, and macOS devices.

App Configuration for iOS devices

To configure App configuration for iOS devices,

  1. Login to your Hexnode portal.
  2. Go to Apps tab > Click on the app for which you have to define the configuration.
  3. Click on the Settings drop down (gear icon) on the top-right corner of the app details box > Click on App Configuration.
  4. Check the Update App Configuration box.
  5. Download the sample XML file to get the exact format to be followed while preparing the app configuration file.
  6. Click on Choose the XML file and upload the XML file > Save.

App Configuration for Android devices

For Android devices app configuration can be done only if the organization and devices are enrolled in Android Enterprise.

To configure a work app,

  1. Login to your Hexnode portal.
  2. Navigate to the Policies tab.
  3. Select an existing policy or create a new one by clicking New Policy.
  4. From Android > App Management, select App Configurations, and click Configure.
  5. Click on Add new configuration > Select the work app.
  6. Configure the app > Click Done.
  7. Go to Policy Targets > Associate the Policy with the target Devices/ Device Groups/Users/User Groups/Domains > Click Save.

App Configuration for macOS devices

To set up App configuration for macOS devices,

  1. Login to the Hexnode MDM portal.
  2. Go to the Policies tab.
  3. Click on New policy > New Blank Policy or choose from an existing policy.
  4. Choose App Configurations from macOS > App Management.
  5. Click on Configure.
  6. Click on + Add New Configuration button to choose the app to be configured.
  7. Download the sample XML file to check the format to be followed for preparing an application configuration file.
  8. Click on Choose File and upload the XML file.
  9. Go to the Policy Targets tab and select the Devices/Device Groups/Users/User Groups/Domains to which the policy is to be attached.
  10. Click on Save.

Notes:

  • Apps with at least one configuration added are shown in the list of configured apps.
  • App configurations can be applied only to those apps which support such configurations. ‘No configuration found’ message will be displayed when we try to configure non-supporting apps.
