How to deploy certificates to Zebra printers?

Zebra Printers securely connect to corporate networks and services with digital certificates. In enterprise environments, printers are used for mission-critical tasks such as printing barcodes and shipping labels, so it is crucial that all communication with Zebra Printers be secured.

Hexnode UEM allows administrators to remotely deploy and install certificates to Zebra Printers through policies.

Deploy Certificates policy

To deploy certificates via policy,

  1. Log in to the Hexnode UEM.
  2. Navigate to Policies > New Policy.
  3. Choose the platform as Zebra Printer and click Next.
  4. Choose Enterprise and then click Next.
  5. Provide a policy name and description (optional).
  6. Go to Security > Certificates.
  7. Click on Configure.
  8. Click on the Add Certificate button to import a new certificate from your device. You can add as many certificates you need. The added certificate will display the following information:
    • Credential Name – Credential name refers to the display name of the certificate. This field becomes visible once you upload a certificate by clicking Add Certificate. Even though this field is already filled, you can change it if necessary.
    • Credential details – Click on ‘+’ to view the credential details, including the subject, issuer name and the expiry date. Click on ‘-‘ to collapse the details section.
  9. To remove a certificate, click on the ‘x’ button at the top-right corner of each certificate listed.

  10. Move to Policy Targets.
  11. Add your target device/device groups/users/user groups/domains/OUs with the policy. Then click OK.
  12. Click Save.

Once the policy is successfully associated with the device, the user can verify the certificate deployment by sending commands to the printer through Zebra utility app which can be installed on Windows, Android, and iOS devices.

No. Certificates are only for secure communication and authentication, and they do not affect the performance of the printer.

  3. Can the deployed certificates be removed remotely?

Yes. Admins can remove the certificates by deleting the corresponding Hexnode policy.

  4. What are the supported certificate file formats that can be deployed to Zebra printers through Hexnode UEM?

Certificates in PEM and DER structured formats are supported for deployment by Hexnode UEM to Zebra printers.
