How to remotely launch app on your Android devices
Devices used in a corporate infrastructure should be easily manageable. With the remote app launch on Android devices, you can simplify the device management experience. The remote launch app feature allows you to launch an app on your device over the air. With this feature, you can remotely launch the app and keep it open on the device. This also allows you to keep the app alive if it is added as a background app in kiosk mode.
Notes:
- The app being launched must be installed on the device.
- Devices enrolled in Android Enterprise as Profile Owner only supports ‘Keep app open until user exits manually’.
- For devices in kiosk mode, the app will be launched but blocked regardless of the time set under ‘ Keep app open for – seconds’ unless it is previously added as an app available in kiosk mode.
- If the admin wants to launch any other app in lock task mode, it must be added as a background app.
- App cannot be launched remotely for devices that are in Lost Mode.
- On Xiaomi devices, the ‘Display pop-up windows while running in the background’ permission needs to be enabled under ‘Other permissions’ for Hexnode MDM/Hexnode for Work app. If ‘MIUI Optimization’ is disabled, ‘Other permissions’ aren’t shown in the app info page and remote app launch won’t be possible. Ensure that ‘MIUI Optimization’ is enabled and the permission is granted manually by the user.
- If a device is enrolled in profile owner mode, only the apps included in the work profile can be launched.
- Ensure that you have the latest version of Hexnode MDM or Hexnode for Work app installed on the devices.
Launch an app on Android devices.
To remotely launch an app on a single Android device
- In the Hexnode portal, go to Manage > Devices.
- Click on the device on which you have to launch the app.
- Go to Actions > Remote App Launch.
- Select the application from the drop-down list.
- Remote app launch can be configured with any of these settings.
- Keep app open for _ seconds – Specify the maximum time for which the app will remain open on the device.
- Never keep the app open – Enabling this option opens and closes the app immediately on the device.
- Keep app open until user exits manually (Enabled by default) – Enabling this option keeps the application open on the device until the user exits it manually from the device.
- Click Done.
- In the Hexnode portal, go to Manage > Devices.
- Select the devices on which you want to launch an application.
- Go to Actions > Remote App Launch.
- Select the application from the drop-down list.
- Choose the required option and click Done.
