Configure Datalogic devices with OEMConfig

OEMConfig is a device management feature for customizing device-specific settings on Android Enterprise enrolled devices. This solution provides users access to all the latest Datalogic OEMConfig features as it gets released. Datalogic OEMConfig is an OEMConfig app that allows you to remotely configure Datalogic device settings from the UEM console.

Pre-requisites:

  • Datalogic devices running Android 8.0 and above.
  • The devices and organization enrolled in the Android Enterprise program.
  • Add and approve the app to the Hexnode inventory

    First, you must approve the Datalogic app to add the app to the Hexnode app inventory.

    1. Navigate to the Apps tab.
    2. Click on the +Add apps button and select Managed Google Apps from the drop-down list.
    3. Search for the Datalogic OEMConfig app and click on Approve.
    4. Next, a pop-up window arises, go through the permission required for the app and click Approve to finalize.
    5. You will be directed to a page showing the approval settings and the tab notifications. Configure the settings accordingly and click on Done.

    This will add the Datalogic app to the Hexnode app inventory. Now, you can deploy the app to the target devices.

    Set-up OEM Configurations

    To enable OEM Configurations on your Android Enterprise devices

    1. Go to the Policies tab.
    2. Create a new policy using the New Policy button or select an existing policy.
    3. Navigate to Android > App Management > App Configurations.
    4. Click on Configure and + Add new configuration button.
    5. Select the Datalogic OEMConfig app from the list of approved apps.
    6. From the app configuration screen displayed, configure the required settings.
    7. You’ll have the following features to be configured.

      Scanner Settings

      Configure settings of device scanner.

      Notifications and Formatting
      OEMConfig Settings Description
      Good Read Duration Duration of each notification after a successful read (in msec). Range 20 – 500. Default value is 70msec.
      Good Read Interval Delay between notifications on a successful read (in msec) Range 20 to 500. Default value is 20msec.
      Good read number The number of notifications produced after a successful read. Range 1 – 4. The default value is 1.
      Enable display notification Display a toast message on a successful read. Default value is false.
      Good read audio mode Select scanner audio notification mode. You can choose from None, Beep Tone (Default), Audio file.
      Default good read audio file selection Select the file used for the audio notification on a successful read chosen from list of Factory audio tones. Default value is Scan Sound.
      Custom good read audio file path Provide path to the custom file used for the audio notification on a successful read. If a custom path is invalid or not specified, the default audio file will be used.
      Good read audio volume Specify the volume of the audio notification on a successful read. Range 0–100. Default value is 75.
      Enable good read Notify when a scan is successful using automatic good read. The default value is true.
      Enable Green Spot Enable Green Spot notification when a scan is successful. The default value is true.
      Enable good read LED Enable LED notification when a scan is successful. Default value is true.
      Enable vibrator Enable the device to create a vibration notification when a scan is successful. Default value is false.
      Label Prefix String of Unicode characters sent prior to the symbology identifier. Label prefix may contain printable and non-printable characters. Represent non-printable characters inside square brackets. E.g. [ESC]. For more info check out www.asciitable.com.
      Label suffix String of Unicode characters sent after the symbology identifier. Label suffix may contain printable and non-printable characters. Represent non-printable characters inside square brackets. E.g. [LF]. For more info check out www.asciitable.com.
      Group Separator Replacement String of Unicode characters that replaces each occurrence of GS in the scanned data. Label prefix may contain printable and non-printable characters. Represent non-printable characters inside square brackets. E.g. [BS][TAB]. For more info check out www.asciitable.com.
      Remove non-printable characters Remove all non-printable characters from the scanned data. The length check for each symbology is evaluated before any characters are removed. Characters in the code ID, prefix, suffix, and separator won’t be removed. Default value is false.
      Send code ID Select symbology identifier to be transmitted along with the scanned data. You can choose from None (default), DLM identifier before, AIM identifier before, User defined identifier before, DLM identifier after, or User defined identifier after.

      Scanner Options and Wedge
      OEMConfig Settings Description
      Enable Picklist Limit reading to a targeted selection. Disabled by default.
      Enable illumination Illuminate barcode when capturing frames. Enabled by default.
      Illumination Type (If Enable illumination option is enabled) Select the scanner illuminator when it attempts to read. You can choose from Auto (default), Red, or White.
      Enable aim Set projection aim when capturing frames. Enabled by default.
      Display mode Manage barcode illumination when capturing frames from displays or reflective surfaces. Disabled by default.
      If enabled the illuminator adjusts according to reflection in previous frames.
      If disabled the illuminator doesn’t adjust and always stays enabled.
      Image Capture Profile Select the image capture profile used by the scanner. You can choose between Auto by enabled symbologies(default), Motion tolerance, Reflection tolerance, or Custom.
      Custom image capture profile (Select Custom in Image Capture Profile for this value to have an effect) Set the frame brightness for the Custom Image Capture Profile. Range 0- 255.
      Target mode Select the beam mode of scanner target. You can choose from No Delay (default), Spot timeout, or Release scan.
      Target timeout (Select Target mode to Spot Timeout for this value to have an effect.) Select the time (in seconds) the target beam is ON before the scanner attempts to read.
      Release Scan timeout (Select Target mode to Release Scan for this value to have an effect.) Select the maximum time (in seconds) that the scanner is on after trigger release. Default value is 2 seconds.
      Decode timeout (Select Target mode to Spot Timeout or No Delay for this value to have an effect.) Select the maximum time (in seconds) that the scanner remains on without reading a barcode. Default value is 5.0 seconds.
      Enable multi scan Capture multiple labels sequentially. Disabled by default.
      Number of required labels (Enable multi scan option must be enabled for this value to have an effect) Set the number of labels to be read before automatically ending a good read transaction. The decoding session is ended successfully and all the collected labels are returned together, only if the label count is reached. Number of labels must be between 2 and 10.
      Enable single notification (Enable multi scan option must be enabled for this value to have an effect) Notify on each successful read during a multi scan operation. Disabled by disabled.
      Enable keyboard wedge Send the captured data to the foreground application in the form of key events. Enabled by default.
      Enable keyboard wedge only on focus (Enable keyboard wedge must be enabled for this value to have an effect) Send the captured data as key events to the current text area with active keyboard input. Disabled by default.
      Keyboard wedge input mode (Enable keyboard wedge must be enabled for this value to have an effect) Select input mode for keyboard wedge. You can choose from Text Injection, Key Pressure, Commit Text.
      Enable intent wedge Send the captured data to an application in the form of an implicit intent. Disabled by default.
      Intent delivery mode Select delivery mode for intent wedge. You can choose from Send via Start Activity, Send via Start Service, or Broadcast Intent (default).
      Intent action Set the general action to be performed. Default value is com.datalogic.decodewedge.decode_action.
      Intent category Set the intent category. Default value is com.datalogic.decodewedge.decode_category.
      Intent extra barcode string Set key corresponding to extra data. Default value is com.datalogic.decode.intentwedge.barcode_string.
      Intent extra barcode type Set an explicit MIME data type. Default value is com.datalogic.decode.intentwedge.barcode_type.
      Intent extra barcode data Set the data this intent is operating on. Default value is com.datalogic.decode.intentwedge.barcode_data.
      Enable web wedge Send the captured data in the form of a valid URL to the Internet browser.

      Symbology Settings

      Barcode

      The symbology for each barcode can be additionally customized with settings that may affect that specific barcode decoding.

      Australia Post

      OEMConfig Settings Description
      Enable Check to enable the symbology for Australia post. By default, this is set as false.
      User ID Specify the symbology identifier, if any. By default, the value is set as f.

      Aztec Code

      OEMConfig Settings Description
      Enable Check to enable the symbology for Aztec code. By default, this is set as true.
      User ID Specify the symbology identifier, if any. By default, the value is set as d.
      Length control Select the length control mode for a label. The available values are No check, One fixed, Two fixed, and Range (default).
      L1 length This is one of the two configurable label lengths. Enter an integer between 1 and 9999. By default, this is 1. For this length to have an effect Length control must be One fixed, Two fixed, or Range.
      L2 length This is one of the two configurable label lengths. Enter an integer between 1 and 9999. By default, this is 3750. For this length to have an effect Length control must be One fixed, Two fixed, or Range.
      Character set mode Use this option to control the character set that can be used for the decoded label. By default, this is Windows-1252 Latin1.

      Codabar

      OEMConfig Settings Description
      Enable Check to enable the symbology for Codabar. Default value is true.
      User ID Specifies the symbology identifier if any. Default value is I.
      Length control Select the length control mode for a label. The available values are No check, One fixed, Two fixed, and Range (default).
      L1 length This is one of the two configurable label lengths. Enter an integer between 1 and 99. By default, this is 4. For this length to have an effect Length control must be One fixed, Two fixed, or Range.
      L2 length This is one of the two configurable label lengths. Enter an integer between 1 and 99. Default value is 20. For this length to have an effect Length control must be One fixed, Two fixed, or Range.
      Enable checksum If enabled, the use of checksum characters will be made required to verify a barcode. By default this is false.
      Send checksum If enabled, includes checksum in the label transmission. For this to take effect, the option Enable checksum should be enabled.
      Send start/stop Check this to enable the transmission of the decoded start and stop characters. Default value is false.
      Convert to CLSI If enabled, only the read labels that conform to CLSI specifications will be allowed to decode. Default value is false.

      Code 128

      OEMConfig Settings Description
      Enable Check to enable the symbology for Code 128. Default value is true.
      User ID Specifies the symbology identifier if any. Default value is K.
      Length control Select the length control mode for a label. The available values are No check, One fixed, Two fixed, and Range (default).
      L1 length This is one of the two configurable label lengths. Enter an integer between 1 and 99. By default, this is 2. For this length to have an effect Length control must be One fixed, Two fixed, or Range.
      L2 length This is one of the two configurable label lengths. Enter an integer between 1 and 99. Default value is 40. For this length to have an effect Length control must be One fixed, Two fixed, or Range.
      Aggressiveness This parameter controls the level of aggressiveness in decoding the Code 128 symbology. The available values are Very Low, Low, Medium (default), High, and Very High.

      [Code 128] GS1–128

      OEMConfig Settings Description
      Enable Check to enable the symbology for Code GS1-128. Default value is true.
      User ID Specifies the symbology identifier if any. Default value is o.

      [Code 128] ISBT 128

      OEMConfig Settings Description
      Enable Check to enable the symbology for Code ISBT 128. Default value is false.
      User ID Specifies the symbology identifier if any. Default value is K.
      Mode Use this field to specify the allowed ISBT 128 barcode symbologies. The available values are Single (default), Concatenated, and Both.
      Concatenated list enable Enable to allow concatenation of commonly concatenated pairs. Default value is true. This option can only be configured if the Mode is Concatenated or Both.

      Code 39

      OEMConfig Settings Description
      Enable Check to enable the symbology for Code 39. Default value is true.
      User ID Specifies the symbology identifier if any. Default value is C.
      Length control Select the length control mode for a label. The available values are No check, One fixed, Two fixed, and Range (default).
      L1 length This is one of the two configurable label lengths. Enter an integer between 1 and 99. By default, this is 1. For this length to have an effect Length control must be One fixed, Two fixed, or Range.
      L2 length This is one of the two configurable label lengths. Enter an integer between 1 and 99. Default value is 20. For this length to have an effect Length control must be One fixed, Two fixed, or Range.
      Enable checksum If enabled, the use of checksum characters will be made required to verify the barcode. By default this is false.
      Send checksum If enabled, includes checksum in the label transmission. For this to take effect, Enable checksum should be true.
      Full ASCII conversion Check to enable full ASCII conversion. Default value is false.

      [Code 39] Code 32

      OEMConfig Settings Description
      Enable Check to enable the symbology for Code 32. Default value is false.
      User ID Specifies the symbology identifier if any. Default value is Y.

      [Code 39] Tri-Optic

      OEMConfig Settings Description
      Enable Check to enable the symbology for Tri-Optic. Default value is false.
      User ID Specifies the symbology identifier if any. Default value is X.

      Code 93

      OEMConfig Settings Description
      Enable Check to enable the symbology for Code 93. Default value is false.
      User ID Specifies the symbology identifier if any. Default value is L.
      Length control Select the length control mode for a label. The available values are No check, One fixed, Two fixed, and Range (default).
      L1 length This is one of the two configurable label lengths. Enter an integer between 1 and 99. By default, this is 2. For this length to have an effect Length control must be One fixed, Two fixed, or Range.
      L2 length This is one of the two configurable label lengths. Enter an integer between 1 and 99. Default value is 20. For this length to have an effect Length control must be One fixed, Two fixed, or Range.

      Composite

      OEMConfig Settings Description
      Enable Check to enable the symbology for Composite. Default value is false.
      User ID Specifies the symbology identifier if any. Default value is q.
      Convert to GS1–128 Check this option to enable the conversion of the composite label to a sequence of GS1-128 barcodes. The default value is false.
      UPC/EAN link mode The available values are Auto (default), Always linked, Never linked. This field controls UPC/EAN label recognition mode.

      Data Matrix

      OEMConfig Settings Description
      Enable Check to enable the symbology for Data Matrix. Default value is true.
      User ID Specifies the symbology identifier if any. Default value is V.
      Length control Select the length control mode for a label. The available values are No check, One fixed, Two fixed, and Range (default).
      L1 length This is one of the two configurable label lengths. Enter an integer between 1 and 9999. By default, this is 1. For this length to have an effect Length control must be One fixed, Two fixed, or Range.
      L2 length This is one of the two configurable label lengths. Enter an integer between 1 and 9999. Default value is 1500. For this length to have an effect Length control must be One fixed, Two fixed, or Range.
      Character set mode Use this option to control the character set that can be used for the decoded label. By default, this is Windows-1252 Latin1.
      Data Matrix operating mode This field value controls the operating mode. The available values are Very Fast, Fast (default), Robust, and Very Robust.

      Digimarc

      OEMConfig Settings Description
      Enable Check to enable the symbology for Digimarc. Default value is true.

      Discrete 2 of 5

      OEMConfig Settings Description
      Enable Check to enable the symbology for Discrete 2 of 5. Default value is false.
      User ID Specifies the symbology identifier if any. Default value is F.
      Length control Select the length control mode for a label. The available values are No check, One fixed, Two fixed, and Range (default).
      L1 length This is one of the two configurable label lengths. Enter an integer between 1 and 99. By default, this is 6. For this length to have an effect Length control must be One fixed, Two fixed, or Range.
      L2 length This is one of the two configurable label lengths. Enter an integer between 1 and 99. Default value is 10. For this length to have an effect Length control must be One fixed, Two fixed, or Range.

      Dotcode

      L2 length This is one of the two configurable label lengths. Enter an integer between 1 and 9999. Default value is 7000. For this length to have an effect Length control must be One fixed, Two fixed, or Range.
      Character set mode Use this option to control the character set that can be used for the decoded label. By default, this is Windows-1252 Latin1.

      You can also configure other barcode symbology settings such as GS1 DataBar Expanded, GS1 DataBar Limited, GS1 DataBar-14, Interleaved 2 of 5, Japan Post, Matrix 2 of 5, MaxiCode, Micro PDF417, Micro QR Code, MSI, PDF417, PostNL KIX-code, QR Code, UK Royal Mail, UPC/EAN Extensions, UPC-A, UPC-E, USPS Intelligent Mail, USPS PLANET and USPS POSTNET.

      Advanced Symbology Settings

      Advanced Barcode Options

      OEMConfig Settings Description
      Enable UPC/EAN reduced If enabled, allows the decoding of UPC/EAN labels with short margins. Default value is false.
      Enable Code 39 reduced If enabled, allows the decoding of Code 39 labels with short margins. The default value is false.
      Enable Code 128 reduced If enabled, allows the decoding of Code 128 labels with short margins. The default value is false.
      Enable MSI reduced If enabled, allows the decoding of MSI labels with short margins. The default value is false.
      1D inverted Set the inverse mode for linear barcode symbologies. The available values are Regular (default), Reverse and Both.
      2D inverted Set the inverse mode for 2D barcode symbologies. The available values are Regular, Reverse and Both (default).

      Power and Charging
      OEMConfig Settings Description
      Suspend on external power Set the screen timeout for when the device is connected to an external power source. Default value is 5 minutes.
      Suspend on internal power Set the screen timeout for when the device is running on battery power. Default value 1 minute.
      Battery saver enable Check to immediately enable battery saver mode on the device. On Android 8, rebooting or connecting to a charging source might reset this setting. Disabled by default.
      Battery saver auto enable Enable to automatically turn on battery saver mode on the device when the battery falls below a specific level. Disabled by default.
      Battery saver trigger level Set the trigger level (in battery percentage) below which the battery saver mode will be auto enabled. The device may scale this value to the closest valid option depending on the Android version. The default value is 5.
      Battery saver auto disable [Android 10+] Enable this option to automatically disable battery saver on Android 10 or later devices when the battery is above 90%. Enabled by default.
      Wakeup Source Select the wakeup source to enable/disable. You can choose from None (default), Left trigger, Right trigger, Pistol trigger, or Front trigger.
      Enable Enables the selected wakeup source. Enabled by default.
      Charging profile Select the wireless charging profile used to manage the charging preferences. This setting is persistent through reboots and factory resets. Default value is Speed and capacity preferences.

      Keyboard and Scan Buttons
      OEMConfig Settings Description
      Lock key input Restricts input from keyboard and physical buttons. Disabled by default.
      Trigger source Select the physical trigger source to enable/disable. You can choose from None (default), Left trigger, Right trigger, Pistol trigger, or Front trigger.
      Enable Enables the selected trigger source. Enabled by default.
      Auto scan enable If checked, you can specify the range at which the auto scan feature begin scanning. Disabled by default.
      Auto scan range Specify the sensitivity limit at which an object should trigger the auto scan feature. The available options are Near (default), Intermediate, and Far.
      Source key Scan code corresponding to the desired key to remap. Default value is None.
      Remap type Select the type of remapping. You can choose from Keycode (default), Unicode, or Start Activity.
      [Keycode] Target key (Remap type must be Keycode for this value to have an effect.) Select the keycode corresponding to the desired remap function. The default value is 0.
      [Keycode] Android meta state (Remap type must be Keycode for this value to have an effect.) Select the Android meta state to apply to desired remap function. The default value is None.
      [Unicode] Character (Remap type must be Unicode for this value to have an effect.) Specify the Unicode character to apply to desired remap function.
      [Start Activity] Intent (Remap type must be Unicode for this value to have an effect.) Specify the package name for desired activity to launch.

      Network Setting
      OEMConfig Settings Description
      Enable airplane mode Enables airplane mode on the device. Disabled by default.
      Note: A manual reboot is required for changes take effect.
      Enable Enables the Bluetooth radio. Enabled by default.
      Device name Set the friendly name of the device to be seen by other devices when discoverable during Bluetooth scan.
      Ethernet enable (Memor 20 only) Check this to enable the ethernet connection capability on Memor 20 devices. Default value is false. Note that the device has to be manually rebooted for this to work.
      Enable mobile data Enables mobile data for internet access on cellular enabled devices. Enabled by default.
      Enable mobile data roaming Enable mobile data connection when roaming. Disabled by default.
      Delete all APN entries Remove all currently configured APN entries. Disabled by default.
      Note: Deletion will occur before adding new entries.
      Delete APN entries Specify the list of APN names (separated by commas) to delete.

      APN
      OEMConfig Settings Description
      Entry name Name the APN entry.
      Preferred APN Set the APN entry as the preferred APN. Disabled by default.
      APN Name of the access point network.
      Proxy Specify the proxy address.
      Port Specify the port number.
      Username Specify the APN username.
      Password Specify the APN password.
      Server Specify the APN server address.
      MMSC Specify the APN MMSC URL.
      MMS proxy Specify the APN MMS proxy address.
      MMS port Specify the APN MMS proxy port number.
      Authentication type Security protocol used to send username and password to the server to establish a network connection. The available values are PAP, CHAP, PAP or CHAP.
      APN type Specify the APN types separated by commas.
      APN protocol Select the APN connection protocol. The default value is IPv4.
      Roaming Protocol Select the protocol to connect to this APN when roaming. The default value is IPv4.

      NFC and Wi-Fi
      OEMConfig Settings Description
      NFC adapter enable Check to enable the NFC adapter. This allows data to be exchanged between the devices when one touches the other. Enabled by default.
      Enable open network notification If enabled, the device will show open network notifications when it is in the vicinity of an open network and is not connected to the internet. Enabled by default.
      Sleep policy Configure when the Wi-Fi should go to sleep on the device. When Wi-Fi is off, device will use mobile data as the primary mechanism to connect to the internet. The available options are Never (default), Never While Plugged, and Default.
      Scan interval Set the time interval in seconds between two consecutive scans executed when device is in “on” and “wi-fi disconnected” condition. The valid value ranges between 2 and 300, by default this is 5. Remember to reboot the device after policy association for the changes to take effect.
      Scan interval max Set the maximum time interval between scans (in seconds) when the device is on and disconnected. The valid value ranges between 2 and 300, by default this is 10. Remember to reboot the device after policy association for the changes to take effect.
      Connected scan interval Set the time interval between scans (in seconds) when the device is on and connected. The valid value ranges between 2 and 300, by default this is 20. Remember to reboot the device after policy association for the changes to take effect.
      Connected scan interval max Set the maximum time interval between scans (in seconds) when the device is on and connected. The valid value ranges between 2 and 300, by default this is 160. Remember to reboot the device after policy association for the changes to take effect.
      802.11 mode Choose the Wi-Fi 802.11 mode to use on the device. Changes will only be available on the device after a reboot. The default value is All enabled.
      Band selection Choose the Wi-Fi band to be used on the device. Changes will only be available on the device after a reboot. The default value is All enabled.
      Power save Choose the Wi-Fi power save mode. Changes will only be available on the device after a reboot. The default value is All enabled.
      Verbose Wi-Fi module logging Toggle on to enable the verbose Wi-Fi module logging for the device. Changes will only be active on the device after a reboot. The default value is All enabled.
      Roaming RSSI threshold (db) Enter a value of the signal threshold for triggering the roaming procedure. When the access point signal enters the threshold value, the device will scan for suitable networks to roam in the background. Choose a value between 10 and 120. Changes will not be active until the device is rebooted. By default, this is 76.
      Roaming RSSI difference (db) Enter the difference in signal between the presently connected access point and the target access point to which the device wants to roam to. If the target signal is higher than the current by at least this value, the device will roam. Choose a value between 0 and 30 (default is 5). NOTE: changes will not be active only after a reboot.

      System Settings
      OEMConfig Settings Description
      Enable auto time Automatically fetch both time and date from the network. Enabled by default.
      Enable auto time zone [cellular only] Automatically fetch both time and date from the cellular network. Disabled by default.
      Select time zone Select the time zone.
      Note: If device is connected to a cellular network and auto time zone is enabled, this setting will be overwritten.
      Enable 24-hour format Set clock in 24-hour format.
      NTP server Specify the server address to use for NTP time syncing.
      Screen brightness Sets the screen backlight brightness. Default value is 70.
      Adaptive brightness Enables the automatic optimization of brightness level for available light. Disabled by default.
      Auto-rotate Enable automatic rotation of device screen. Disabled by default.
      Font size Set the font size.
      Disable touch screen Toggle on this option to prevent users from using the touch screen features to interact with the device. Note that only the hardware buttons remain operable for the user to control the device. By default this is false.
      2nd display enable Enable to allow the 2nd display feature on a Memor 20. This option is disallowed by default.
      Add packages Enable 2nd display notifications for the package names that you have specified. Separate the package names with commas.
      Remove packages Enter the package names (separated by commas) for which you have to disable 2nd display notifications.
      Brightness Set the brightness of the 2nd display. The default value is 100.
      Sleep Set the sleep timeout for the 2nd display. By default, this is Never timeout.
      Rotation enable If toggled on the text can be rotated by 180 degrees.
      Rotation speed Specify the rotation speed of the 2nd display. The available values are Slow (default), Medium and Fast.
      Enable new app notifications Enable to enable notifications for all apps on the 2nd screen. Default value is true.
      Select Locale Select the locale to apply to the device.
      Location mode Used to enable/disable location services. Default value is GPS on.
      Sound Source Select the sound category to adjust.
      Volume Level Set the volume level for the selected sound source. Default value is 50.
      Enable dial pad tones Enables the dial pad tones when dialing. Enabled by default.
      Enable charging sounds Enable sounds during charging events. Enabled by default.
      Enable touch sounds Enable sound effects on touching the device screen. Enabled by default.

      Firmware Update
      OEMConfig Settings Description
      Reset Type Select the type of reset to perform after a firmware update completes. Default value is None.
      OTA Update File Specify the complete path to the file on the device that is to be used for a firmware update.

    8. Click Done after selecting the required configurations.
    9. Associate the policy with the target devices by navigating to the Policy Targets tab.
    10. Select the required Devices/Device Groups/Users/User Groups/Domains to which the policy is to be associated.
    11. Click on Save.
