How to install apps on Windows devices using Hexnode MDM

Hexnode MDM enables you to easily deploy store apps on your Windows devices. You can either install apps directly from the Microsoft Store or add applications to the app inventory to configure the installation at a later stage.

Add store apps to your App inventory

  1. Login to your Hexnode MDM portal
  2. Go to Apps tab > Click on +Add Apps button > Select Store App
  3. Uncheck the options iOS, Android and MacOS > Type in the name of the required app on the search box > Click on the Search button
  4. Click on Select country to get the apps from the app store for a particular country
  5. Click the Add button to select the required app.

Now, the selected apps will be successfully added to your app inventory.

Install apps via Policy

You can install apps on your Windows devices using the Mandatory apps policy.

Notes

  • A device will be marked as non-compliant if a mandatory app is missing from that device.
  • Navigate to Admin tab > General Settings > Compliance Settings > Enable the option Device is not application compliant. The device will not be marked as non-compliant unless you’ve enabled this option.

  1. Login to your Hexnode MDM portal > Navigate to Policies tab > Click on New Policy to create a new one or click on any policy to edit an existing one > Enter the Policy Name and Description in the provided fields.
  2. Go to Windows > From App Management, choose Mandatory Apps > Click on Configure
  3. Click on +Add button > Choose either Add App or Add Group.
  4. On selecting Add App,
From Local Apps, search and select the required apps > Click Done.
    Or

Select Public Store to install apps directly from the public app store > Search and select the required apps > Click Done.

    On selecting Add Group,

Search and select the required app group(s) > Click Done.

  5. Navigate to Policy Targets > Click on +Add Devices > Select the target devices > Click OK > Save.
Note

To associate the policies to a device group, select Device Groups from the left pane under Policy Targets, and follow the above instructions. Similarly, you can associate the policy to Users, User Groups, or Domains from the same pane.
