iPad Not Getting Supervised When Enrolled via Browser ProfileSolved

We are trying to supervise an iPad but running into issues. The device was enrolled through the browser by installing the management profile, but supervision remains disabled. On macOS, following a similar enrollment flow results in supervised devices, so we expected the same behavior here. Is there something different about iOS or iPadOS supervision that we are missing?

Yes, supervision on iOS and iPadOS works differently compared to macOS. Enrolling an iPad through a browser based profile installation does not enable supervision. Supervision requires the device to be enrolled using either Apple Automated Device Enrollment (ADE) or Apple Configurator, and it must be tied to an organization with an active Apple Business Manager (ABM) account and managed Apple IDs.

Hey thanks for pitching in. Actually, we do have an active ABM account, and while troubleshooting, we noticed that this iPad was already added to ABM. We attempted to enroll it again using ADE, but we are now running into errors during enrollment and supervision still does not seem to apply.

If the device is already present in ABM and you are facing supervision issues, the recommended approach is to unassign and then reassign the device in ABM, sync the ADE configuration in Hexnode, and perform a factory reset on the iPad. Reassigning the device forces a refresh with Apple’s activation servers, clearing any cached assignment state. After the reset, the device should display the Remote Management screen during setup and complete enrollment as a supervised device without further issues.
