Can a single Wi-Fi policy handle multiple SSIDs?Solved

Hey folks,

I was about to set up a Wi-Fi policy for our iOS devices and had a quick doubt.

Can we add multiple SSIDs in a single policy, or do we need to create separate policies for each one? Since it’s Wi-Fi, I don’t want to mess this up by trial and error 😅

Hey,

Yeah, you can add multiple Wi-Fi networks in a single policy. No need to split them out.

Oh, okay, that’s good to know. Then how does the device decide which one to connect to? Is there a priority system? Also, will it only stick to these networks, or can users still connect to others?

From what I’ve seen, devices usually pick based on signal strength or whichever network is more accessible at that moment.

There is a way to control behaviour more strictly, I thinklike prioritizing or restricting. But I don’t remember the exact setting name off the top of my head.

You’re both on the right track here.

You can configure multiple SSIDs within a single policy, and devices will generally connect based on signal strength and availability.

If your goal is to restrict devices so they only connect to the configured networks, you can enable the Connect to MDM-configured Wi-Fi networks only option under Advanced Restrictions. Do note that this restriction is applicable only when Wi-Fi configurations are already present in the policy.

We have kiosk devices used strictly within defined working hours. The requirement is to ensure that these devices automatically connect to the corporate Wi-Fi during work hours, and once the shift ends, the Wi-Fi configuration is removed so the network is no longer available on the device. Is there a way to make these Wi-Fi policies active only during working hours and then remove them after?

Yes, @melora that’s doable.

You can use  Scheduled Policies through Automation to apply and remove configurations based on time or conditions.

One thing to keep in mind is that if the device is offline when the policy is scheduled to be removed, the change will only reflect once it comes back online.

Feel free to reach out if you need help setting this up.
