So I was setting up some iPads for our field team and realized they needed quick access to a some internal site. I thought about just bookmarking it, but then I remembered Web Clips are a thing. That’s when I got stuck.. wasn’t sure if I should add it under apps or policies in the management console. Anyone know the right way?

Wait, can’t you just upload the Web Clip directly in Hexnode? I thought there was a way to do it straight from the portal without messing around with policies.

Thanks for raising it! Here’s the correct process:

First, you need to add the URL to your app repository so the system recognizes it as an object.

Phase 1 : Add Web App

  1. Navigate to Apps > Add Apps.

  1. Select Web App.

  1. Fill in the Name (how it appears on the home screen) and the URL.

  1. Upload a custom Icon.

Phase 2: Deploy via Policy

Simply adding the app doesn’t push it to devices. You have to tell the devices to “pull” that app via their assigned policy.

  1. Go to Policies and select your active iOS Policy.

  1. Navigate to iOS > Configurations > Web Clips.

  1. Click Add and select the Web App you just created from your repository.

  1. Select Policy Targets > +Add Devices and choose the device.

  1. Click Save.
