macOS updates deferred on devices and not showing as installable in HexnodeSolved

I have mac devices that are showing Tahoe 26 has been downloaded and is “installable” in Hexnode.  They are currently running Sequoia 15.5 and I need to get them to 15.7.1.  15.7.1 is not showing on some devices only Tahoe 16.  How do I push 15.7.1 to these devices so they will update from 15.5 to 15.7.1.

Hi @amorris,
You can deploy macOS 15.7.1 to your devices using the Update OS remote action from Hexnode, provided the update is available for those devices. Here’s how:

  1. Log in to your Hexnode UEM portal.
  2. Navigate to Manage > Devices and select the required macOS device(s).
  3. Click Actions > Updates > Update OS.
  4. Choose the required action from the available list:
    1. Download and Install – Software updates are automatically downloaded and installed.
    2. Download Only – System updates are downloaded on the device but not installed. The user needs to install the updates manually on the device from System Preferences > Software Update > Install macOS updates.
  5. Click Update.

Sometimes macOS updates may not appear consistently across all devices due to Apple’s update rollout behavior. So, if Sequoia 15.7.1 doesn’t appear as an available version, the update may not yet be available for that particular device.

To confirm whether the update is available on the device, you can try the following:

  1. Run the Scan for updates remote action on the required devices to check if Sequoia 15.7.1 appears. To initiate a scan for updates on macOS devices:
    1. Login to your Hexnode UEM portal.
    2. Navigate to Manage > Devices.
    3. Select the desired macOS device.
    4. Navigate to Actions > Updates > Scan for updates.

Once the action completes, open the Patches and Updates sub-tab under the device details to view the detected OS versions.

  2. Or,

  3. Use the Live Terminal feature to run the following command and see if the OS update is listed:
  4. If Sequoia 15.7.1 is listed, retry the Update OS action from Hexnode to push the update. If not, it is likely due to Apple’s staggered rollout plan.

I hope this helps clarify the process! If you encounter any issues or find difficulty while implementing this, feel free to reach out – we’ll be happy to help!

Best regards,
Ben Clarke

Hi @amorris!

I’m seeing the same issue on a few Macs. macOS 15.7.1 isn’t showing up, and only Tahoe 26 is available. Seems like it’s happening for others too, Apple discussions have similar cases. Hopefully, a fix will be available soon from Apple’s side.
