Hi everyone, one of our MacBooks got locked after an employee left the company. We don’t know the system PIN that was used. Is there any way to retrieve it?
How to retrieve the system PIN for a locked Mac in Hexnode?Solved

You can retrieve the system PIN from the Hexnode UEM portal. Go to Manage > Devices > select the device > open Action History > find the Lock Device action > click the info icon next to it. The system PIN will be shown there.

That worked, thanks! I was able to unlock the Mac.
This is really useful. Does this work even if the lock was done a few weeks ago?
Yes, as long as the lock action is still listed in the device’s action history, you can view the info icon and retrieve the system PIN from there.
Just tried this on one of our older locked Macs, and it worked for us too. Great to know this is available.
Is there anything I need to be careful about while remotely locking a Mac device?
Yes @laura123 , there are a few important points to keep in mind:
- When you trigger the Lock Device action from the portal, you must set a 6-digit System Lock PIN. This PIN is what will be required to unlock the Mac.
- If a Mac is locked locally on the device (for example, by a user changing or setting a login password), Hexnode UEM will not store or display any system PIN for that lock.
- Also, be careful when entering the System Lock PIN. If the wrong PIN is entered multiple times, macOS can place the device into an indefinite lock state, making recovery more difficult.
