Hi people,

Hope you’re all doing well! I thought renewing our expired APNs certificate would be easy… nope. Now I keep getting this error: “APNs certificates do not match.
Has anyone encountered this before? I’d love to know how you fixed it!

Hey @alice_grey.

Yep, I have bumped into that error once. It usually means the certificate you are trying to renew isn’t the same one that was originally created, most often because you are logged in with the wrong Apple ID.

Now that you mention it… the person who originally set this up left the company, and we are not exactly sure which Apple ID they used. We have a couple we usually use for admin stuff, but none of them seem to match.

Is there a way to find out which one is right?

Hi @alice_grey, welcome to Hexnode Connect!

As @josiah mentioned, this error shows up when there’s a mismatch between the certificate being renewed and the original certificate, often due to using different Apple ID credentials.
A couple of key things to remember:

  1. Verify the APNs UID
Make sure the UID of the APNs certificate in Hexnode matches the UID of the certificate you are trying to renew in the Apple Push Certificates Portal.
  2. Use the same Apple ID
You must renew the certificate using the exact same Apple ID.
If you use a different one, Apple treats it as a new certificate, and you would need to re-enroll every device.

To find out which Apple ID was used to create the push certificate in Apple’s Push Certificates Portal, just go to Admin > APNs in Hexnode UEM portal. You will see the Apple ID listed there.

For detailed steps, check out our help documentation on renewing APNs certificate.
