Unable to access the battery swap option on Zebra devicesSolved

Hey all, we have run into a bit of a weird issue with our Zebra devices. We are trying to enable battery swap mode while the devices are locked down in kiosk.

When the device is not in kiosk, the battery swap function is available and works fine. But as soon as we put the device into kiosk mode, we cannot access the battery swap option. Has anyone run into this? This is a big deal for our warehouse operations, so we are really trying to get this sorted.

Yeah, we hit something similar a while back. Try adding “System UI” to your background apps policy. That allowed us to access the battery swap function while staying in kiosk. Believe me, we know how annoying this is!

Thanks @ryker, we added System UI to the background apps, and that did bring the battery swap screen back, so that’s progress!

But now we have a completely new issue, as soon as we try to swap the battery, the device just dies. Ideally, it should give us about 90 seconds to swap the battery, but now it just shuts off completely. Any ideas?

Hmm, that sounds like the battery manager service isn’t running right in the background. We had the same problem. Try adding com.symbol.batterymanager.ui.MainActivity to your allowed background apps in kiosk mode.

Good call. We added that package, and now we are seeing something different. The battery swap screen opens, but only for a second, then it closes right away on its own. So, the behavior changed, but it’s still not working as expected.

Dang, that’s frustrating. The only thing that comes to mind is disabling battery optimization for the battery manager app. Not sure if that’s the issue, but it could be messing with it.

Interesting, didn’t even think about battery optimization. I’ll check that out and keep you posted. Thanks for all the help so far!
