We’ve been trying to perform a full wipe on some of our Intel-based Macs running Monterey, that’s around 12 and above. These are older machines without the T2 security chip.
When we trigger Wipe Device from Hexnode, instead of erasing the machine completely, the device just ends up getting locked with a Find My Mac PIN.
I want to check, if a full “factory reset” possible on Intel Macs that don’t have the T2 chip? Or is the lock-only behavior the maximum we can achieve through MDM?

Thank you for reaching out to Hexnode Connect. The behavior you’re seeing is actually expected based on how Apple handles erase commands across different Mac hardware.
As per Apple’s documentation, on Intel Macs without the T2 Security Chip, the MDM Erase Device command does not trigger a full wipe. Instead, macOS falls back to a remote lock using a firmware password or a Find My Mac PIN.
In the later models, such as those with Apple Silicon (M series) or Intel devices equipped with the T2 chip, Apple introduced a newer wipe method called “Erase All Content and Settings (EACS).
On your devices, the erase command cannot invoke EACS or the fallback “obliteration” workflow used by T2-equipped Macs. As a result, the system defaults to the only supported remote action: locking the device.
