Hey everyone, I’ve set up an Android TV in kiosk mode for a demo environment. The problem is, whenever someone presses the Home button on the remote, the kiosk app exits and goes back to the launcher. I thought kiosk mode should block this behaviour. Has anyone run into this issue?

Yes, I’ve seen this. On Android TV, kiosk implementations are a bit different compared to tablets or phones. The Home button is harder to intercept because the system prioritizes it.

If you’re relying on screen pinning, that won’t work on Android TV. You need to configure the app as the default launcher. That way, when Home is pressed, it just reloads your kiosk app instead of the stock launcher.

One more note: if you’re testing on consumer Android TV devices, some OEMs restrict kiosk features.

I guess if you are stuck, rebooting the device can be a quick fix, though it’s not a long-term solution.
