I’m trying to enroll my iPad via Apple Business Manager (ABM), but I keep getting this error: “The configuration from your iPad could not be downloaded. The configuration is not available.” Has anyone else faced this issue?

Hello @desmond ,

This error usually stems from one of two issues:

  • Network Restrictions: Ensure the iPad has stable internet and that your firewall isn’t blocking Apple’s activation servers or the MDM URL. Try accessing the MDM URL from another device on the same network to verify.
  • ABM Assignment: The device may be in Apple Business Manager (ABM) but not yet linked to an MDM server or enrollment profile. Without this link, the iPad cannot fetch its configuration. To assign the device:
    1. Log in to your ABM portal and go to Devices.
    2. Locate the iPad using the search bar.
    3. Click the three dots in the top‑right corner and choose Assign Device Management.
    4. Select your Hexnode server and refresh the page to verify the assignment.
    5. In Hexnode UEM, associate the device with the correct enrollment profile and confirm that the profile status shows as Assigned.

Finally, reset the iPad to factory settings so the assigned profile can trigger during activation.
