Can Hexnode restrict Wi-Fi password access but permit manual connections?Solved

Hey folks,

I kinda wanted to confirm if this scenario is technically possible. The user should be able to manage network connections on the device (like connecting to different Wi-Fi networks manually) but at the same time, the user should NOT be able to view or share the Wi-Fi passwords of those networks from the device settings.

Is that kinda possible?

Interesting question. I’ve always wondered about that too. From what I’ve seen, Android lets you share Wi-Fi passwords via QR code if you add the network manually. So I’m not sure if you can block that without locking down Wi-Fi completely.

Yeah, exactly. If the Wi-Fi is pushed through HexnodeUEM, users can’t see the password. But if they add it themselves, they’re considered the “owner” of that connection, so they can share it. That’s just how Android handles it.

Thankyou for raising this question.

I can confirm it is possible to prevent users from viewing or sharing Wi-Fi passwords, but this restriction applies only to Wi-Fi profiles pushed via the Hexnode UEM.

To achieve your goal, please implement the following:

1.Protect Hexnode UEM-Configured Profiles

  • Navigate to Policies > Android > Advanced Restrictions > Allow Connectivity Options.

  • Uncheck the optionConfigure managed Wi-Fi profile. This ensures users cannot view or modify details (including passwords) of Wi-Fi networks deployed by Hexnode.

2.Prevent Manual Wi-Fi Configuration (Password Sharing) As noted, if a user manually adds a network, Android treats them as the owner, allowing password viewing and sharing. To block this behavior:

  • Navigate to Policies > Android > Advanced Restrictions > Allow Connectivity Options.

  • Uncheck the optionConfigure Wi-Fi.

This way, only UEM-pushed Wi-Fi profiles are usable, and users cannot view or share their passwords.

Makes sense. So basically, if you want total control, you have to stop users from adding networks themselves.

I think that’s fair. In corporate setups, you usually want to control Wi-Fi anyway. For personal devices, it might feel restrictive, but for managed ones it’s the safest route.
