Hi all, I’ve got some ROM-enrolled Android devices in Hexnode UEM. They’re stuck in legacy admin mode. I saw there’s an “Enable Device Owner” action. Can this be automated?
Automate Enable Device OwnerSolved

Hello @_janet ,
Yes, Hexnode allows you to automate the Enable Device Owner action via the Automate tab. This means you can automate the privilege elevation and trigger the action based on schedules or specific events.
For example, you could configure it to run on Device Enrollment, so any newly enrolled ROM device is automatically elevated to Device Owner mode. This ensures advanced management features are available right away without manual intervention.

Hey @simon_scott ,
We often move devices between different teams, for example, from testing to production. Right now, when a device is added to a group, we have to manually elevate it before applying stricter policies. Is there a way to automate Device Owner elevation when a device is moved into a specific group?
Yes, that is a practical scenario. While automation cannot be triggered solely by a device joining a group, you can configure it so that the Enable device owner action is applied to all devices within a designated group during the automation schedule. For example, if you maintain a “Production Devices” group, you can include that group in the Target Filters section when setting up the automation.
In the Settings and Schedule step, you can use the Time-based trigger to define how and when the action should run.
By combining these scheduling options with group filters, any ROM‑enrolled device added to the “Production Devices” group will receive the automation during the next scheduled run. This ensures that devices moved from testing into production are elevated to Device Owner mode in a controlled and predictable manner. As a result, advanced management capabilities such as kiosk lockdown, silent application installation, and remote screen control become available without requiring manual intervention each time.
Got it. This will save us a lot of manual effort.
