Assigning device to a userSolved

I’m not quite getting the concept of assigning devices to users. I mean, if you want to group devices, isn’t that what device groups are for? How is it different?

Hey @roger

Thanks for reaching out!
I get your point, but it really comes down to the purpose.

Assigning a device to a user means the device is linked to that specific individual. This helps with tracking ownership and is useful when you want to apply user-based policies, actions, or settings. You can also take this a step further by organizing users into user groups based on criteria like departments, roles, or locations. This makes it easier to associate policies with a set of users. For example, you could apply a Wi-Fi policy to everyone in the Finance team without having to select each user individually.

Adding devices to a device group, on the other hand, is more about grouping devices based on shared traits like department, OS, location, or use case. Policies or actions applied to a device group will affect all devices in that group, regardless of which user they’re assigned to.

If you have any more questions, feel free to reach out!

Hey there,

I’m in a bit of a pickle. I assigned the wrong user during device enrollment into Hexnode. Is there a way to change the user without disenrolling and re-enrolling the device?

Hey @remi,
Thanks for reaching out!

No need to re-enroll the device. Hexnode gives you Change Owner remote action for exactly this kind of situation. Here’s what you need to do:

  1. Go to the Manage tab and select the device.
  2. On the Device Summary page, click Actions.
  3. Select Change Owner.
  4. Pick the correct domain and choose the user you want to assign.
  5. Click Assign.

This will update the user assigned to the device without requiring you to go through the enrollment process again.

Let me know if there’s anything else I can assist you with.
