Apps showing “Restricted by administrator” in App CatalogSolved

Hi everyone,

We’re noticing an issue on some Samsung Android devices where a few apps in the App Catalog show “Restricted by administrator.” We haven’t blocked anything, and users were able to install these apps earlier without issues.

Now users can’t install apps like Microsoft Authenticator, OpsGenie, and OneLogin Protect on their own. We have to push them from Hexnode.

No policy changes were made from our side. Just wanted to check — has there been any recent Hexnode update or known change that could cause this?

We faced something similar a while back. In our case, it wasn’t app-specific, it was tied to the policy applied to the device. Might be worth rechecking the policy or trying a test device with a fresh one.

Thanks for reaching out.

@zayn_nj , there haven’t been any recent Hexnode updates that would impact app installation behavior.

To troubleshoot this further, please check the policy applied to the affected device by navigating to, Manage → Select the device → Policies sub tab→ Click on the applied policy → Advanced Restrictions

Ensure that Install apps and Google Play Store options under Allow App Settings are enabled. If these are restricted, apps may appear as “Restricted by administrator” on the device, even if no specific apps were blocked.

Also, please confirm whether other apps install normally or if the issue is limited to certain ones.

If you have any further queries, do let us know and we will assist accordingly.

Best Regards
