AirDrop not receiving filesSolved

Hi folks, I’ve noticed that AirDrop on our Hexnode‑managed iOS devices running version 18+ isn’t working properly. Sending files from the managed device works fine, but when trying to receive files, the device just plays the notification sound, but no prompt appears to accept the transfer. I think this started happening after we applied an Allowlist policy. Has anyone else faced this?

Yes, I’ve come across the same. Apple tightened system security in iOS 18+. The AirDrop UI is now handled by a separate background process, and the OS mistakenly treats it as a “blocked app” if it isn’t explicitly included in your Allowlist. That’s why the prompt doesn’t show up.

Hello,

I understand the scenario, and at present, there are only two possibilities to overcome the issue of devices not showing the AirDrop prompt when an Allowlist policy is applied:

  • Switch to a Blocklist policy, which avoids the issue but requires listing all apps you want to block.
  • Deploy a configuration profile that allows for the required bundle ID (com.apple.Sharing.AirDropUI).

Okay, but we don’t want to move to Blocklist, so is there a way to include that bundle ID directly in the Allowlist policy? Also, I don’t see any option for pushing configuration profiles. Is that because we’re on the Enterprise plan?

I understand your concern, but unfortunately Hexnode UEM does not currently support adding bundle identifiers within the Allowlist policy. So, the available workaround for devices not showing the AirDrop prompt is to continue with the Blocklist approach.

Regarding your second question, the ability to deploy configuration profiles is available on the Ultimate plan. If you’d like to explore this option, I’d recommend reaching out to our support team, who can guide you through upgrading your plan.
