Where can I download logs for macOS devices?Solved

Hey everyone, I’ve got a question. We needed some logs from a user’s macOS device for troubleshooting. I tried requesting them from the portal using the remote action and even sent the logs from the Hexnode uem app on the device.

Usually, for Android or iOS, I download them from the Logs subtab under the device summary page. But for macOS, that tab doesn’t even show up. I’ve tried multiple times and still nothing. Is this a bug or am I missing something?

I thought the same thing the first time! It’s not a bug though. The Logs subtab doesn’t appear for macOS devices because the logs are kept somewhere else.

Just open the device summary page and go to the applications subtab. Search for the hexnode MDM app, click the little gear icon next to it, and select Download. You’ll get a zip file with everything inside.

Oh, that’s where it was. Thanks, Lena! I was starting to think the option just disappeared for macOS.

Hey guys, I’m the new IT admin here, just took over from the person who used to handle Hexnode uem for our company. I tried downloading the logs from a few Macs in one of our device groups, but the logs seem really short. There’s barely any information in them compared to the other macOS devices that aren’t part of that group. Thought it was a bit strange since it’s the same across all macs in that group.

Just check what logging level you’ve got configured. You might have pushed a Hexnode app logs policy to that device group. By default, it’s usually set to verbose, which captures everything. But if that policy was configured to Warning or error, the logs will be pretty limited.

You’re right, there was an app logs policy attached to the group, and it was set to warning. Changed it to Verbose and the new logs look complete now. Thanks, Lena!
