Hey folks, I’m running into something odd. I can’t connect to Wi-Fi on an Android device enrolled in Hexnode. Whenever I try, I get this message: “Security policy prevents changing settings.”. I checked my policy and Wi-Fi is allowed. Does anyone have a fix for this?

@ethan_, this error usually means a restriction is still blocking access somewhere, even if Wi-Fi looks enabled at a higher level.

Let’s break this down step by step:

  • Under Policies > Android > Advanced Restrictions, confirm if Allow Connectivity Options (Configure Wi-Fi) is enabled.

  • Also check Basic Restrictions, and make sure Network Settings > WiFi setting is allowed there as well.

Sometimes one layer allows it while another silently blocks it.

Yeah, I checked both. Wi-Fi is allowed in Advanced Restrictions, and it’s enabled under Basic Restrictions too. Still getting the same error on the device.

Alright, then this is likely coming from the kiosk configuration, not the general restrictions. If the device is in kiosk mode, Wi-Fi access can be controlled separately.

Can you check this:

  • Go to Kiosk Lockdown > Android Kiosk Lockdown > Peripheral Settings

  • Look for the option: Connect to and switch between saved Wi-Fi networks

If this isn’t enabled, the device may block manual Wi-Fi changes entirely.

Just checked — that option wasn’t enabled.

That explains itEnable that setting and push the policy again. This allows the device to interact with network selection within the kiosk-controlled environment. Once applied, try connecting to Wi-Fi again from the device. The restriction error should no longer appear.

Yep, that did it. Wi-Fi works nowDidn’t realize kiosk settings could override the other restrictions like that.
