ODT devices showing as "Inactive" statusSolved

Hi team,

I recently set up Okta Device Trust (ODT). However, when I check the Hexnode console under Manage tab > Device summary > ODT section, the devices are showing an “Inactive” status.

Will this Inactive status change once Okta FastPass is authenticated? Management is asking if ODT can be successfully deployed without forcing the users to authenticate through FastPass. Is there any easier option to bypass this?

Also, a few follow-up questions:

  1. Can we get a list of the users/devices that currently have the Okta “inactive” status?
  2. What is the process to send a notification to instruct end-users to enable Okta Fastpass?
  3. Is it possible to just enable okta FastPass centrally through Hexnode?

Thanks!

Hi ace_98,

Happy to clarify how the ODT integration handles this.

To answer your first question: Yes, the status will change. Once the user successfully logs into Okta Verify using their Okta credentials, you just need to click the refresh button next to the Okta Device info in your console. The device details will update, and the status will flip to Active.

Regarding an easier deployment option, that is unfortunately not available. It is not possible to deploy ODT without Okta FastPass authentication. This is not a setting we can bypass; it is a mandatory step strictly required by Okta itself for the integration to work.

Addressing your follow-up questions:

  1. List of Inactive devices / Sending notification: You can view and export this list directly from Okta to figure out who you need to nudge. Navigate to Okta > Device Trust > Actions > View Device Configuration Status. This page lists all the devices attempting to register via Okta, and you can sort and export both the Active and Inactive devices from there.
  2. Enabling FastPass via Hexnode: No, it is not possible to enable FastPass through Hexnode. It must be enabled directly in the Okta Portal. By default, Okta FastPass is already enabled in the Okta domain (located under Security > Authenticators).

Note: If FastPass happens to be disabled in your Okta tenant and you try to integrate ODT, the integration will completely fail and throw the error message: “Enable Okta FastPass in the Okta tenant”.

Let me know if you need help locating any of those settings in the Okta console!

Cheers,
