macOS Updates not being deployedSolved

Hey people, I’m trying to force install updates on some Macs. I’d used a policy for this with the update settings set to Download and Install and manually triggered the updates. But the devices remained on the current version, which is weird as in the Action history as I see the action status as Initiated. Anyone got any thoughts on how to fix this issue?

@skylar-a , have you double checked if your device has sufficient battery levels and storage space and an active network connection status.

Yes, @timo-liam There’s nothing wrong with that. Checked and confirmed.

@skylar-a , when an update action stays stuck at ‘Initiated’, it usually means the Mac isn’t meeting one or more of Apple’s update prerequisites. Even though Hexnode pushes the command, the OS won’t start the update until these conditions are satisfied.

A few common requirements that can block installation:

  • The device isn’t running the minimum macOS version required for that update.

  • Not enough free storage for the update installer.

  • Battery not sufficiently charged, or the device isn’t connected to power.

  • Lack of a stable network connection.

To confirm this, try running the update manually on one of the devices. If it only proceeds after meeting those conditions, that’s the cause.

Hey @kylian_parker , you are right. Phew, it was just an issue of the OS requirements with the devices. I’ve tested it, and the updates prompted device reboot only when device conditions were met. Thank you for your help.
