Keeping location history cleanSolved

Hi all,

Quick question. When an employee leaves the company or when we retire one of our field Android phones, we usually clear out the device data from the portal.

One thing I was wondering about is location history. Is there a way to remove a device’s location history automatically from the portal?

I’m not 100% sure, but I remember seeing something about retention settings for location history. You might be able to configure it so that the data gets deleted after a certain period of time.

Yeah, I did notice that option.

The only problem is that I was hoping to make it a bit more automated. For example, if someone swaps the SIM card on a device, that usually means the phone is being reassigned or taken out of use. It would be great if the location history could just get cleared automatically when that happens.

We have shared field devices as well. If a phone is re-enrolled, it would be great to start fresh instead of keeping the old location logs.

Hi @otis, and @yu-yan,

Yes, this can be automated using the Automate feature in the Hexnode UEM portal. You can create an automation that triggers the Delete Location History action when a SIM-related activity, or when device re-enrollment occurs.

To configure this,

  1. Navigate to the Automate tab in Hexnode UEM portal.
  2. Click New Automation and choose Android as the platform.
  3. Under Security, select Delete Location History.
  4. For the trigger type, select Activity and choose any of these events:
    • SIM insertion, SIM removal, or SIM switch
    • Device Enrollment or Device Re-Enrollment
  5. Set up target filters and save the automation.

You can also set up time-based automations if you prefer deleting location history on a schedule. For more details, you can refer to the help documentation on automation.

Oh nice, that’s exactly the kind of thing I was looking for. I’ll give that a try. Thanks!
