Is there a way to block data sharing between work and personal apps in Hexnode?Solved

Hi everyone, we’re planning to manage iOS devices in our organization, and one of the key things we need is to keep work apps and company data completely separate from personal apps on the same device.

We want to avoid situations where users can move data from work apps into personal apps. Is this something we can achieve with Hexnode?

Yeah, this is definitely doable with HexnodeI’ve seen this kind of setup before on iOS devices.

Just can’t remember the exact feature name or where it sits in the console. Pretty sure it’s some sort of container-based configuration.

Hi all! Hexnode UEM provides a dedicated feature to address this requirement.

On iOS and iPadOS devices, you can use the Hexnode Business Container, which establishes a controlled environment for enterprise applications. Apps distributed through Hexnode are treated as managed, allowing administrators to regulate how data is shared across applications.

Using this feature, you can enforce data separation policies such as:

  • Control whether data copied from managed (work) apps can be pasted into unmanaged (personal) apps.
  •

  • Define if documents from managed apps can be opened in unmanaged apps.
  •

  • Decide whether files from unmanaged apps can be accessed within managed apps.
  •

You can configure these settings under: Policies > iOS > Hexnode Business Container > Business Container

This setup helps ensure that corporate data remains within the managed ecosystem while still allowing controlled interactions where necessary.

Hey, I actually tried setting this up but ran into an issue.

I’m not able to copy-paste between a couple of apps, even though both are supposed to be work apps. Not sure what I’m missing here.

This behavior typically occurs when one of the applications is not recognized as a managed app.

If an application is installed manually on the device instead of being deployed through Hexnode, it will be treated as unmanaged. In such cases, data sharing restrictions will apply, preventing clipboard operations between the apps.

Please ensure that both applications are deployed via Hexnode UEM and are listed as managed in the console. Once both apps are recognized as managed, data sharing between them should function as expected.
