I found “Content Tokens” in ABM, is that the VPP token?Solved

I’m about to renew a token in Apple Business Manager and I’m getting that “this will replace the old token” warning which is making me hesitate.

In Hexnode, I see an upload token section for ADE accounts… but I’m also hearing about Apple VPP tokens for apps.

Before I click something irreversible:
Are ADE tokens and VPP tokens the same thing, or two separate tokens?

Two separate tokens and Apple make it confusing by handing out multiple “tokens” that all sound equally dangerous.

  • ADE token = device enrollment / automated enrollment flow
  • VPP token = app licensing + app installs via Apple Business Manager

If your issue is around deploying apps, the VPP token is the one to check. In Apple Business Manager it usually lives under Content (not under enrollment).

That explains it, I found something in ABM called Content Tokens, and yep… it says it expires in 13 days.

So, I’m assuming this is the one Hexnode is asking for under Apple VPP?
I’d rather update it now than wait for the “surprise outage” version of the story later.

Yep, you’re in the right place Content Token = VPP token.

Download the updated token from ABM and upload it in Hexnode under:
Admin > Apple Business Manager > Apple VPP

The good news: renewing the VPP token doesn’t wipe your world, it basically keeps app licensing and installs working smoothly.
