How to track missing iPhones when "Recent Location" is not showing data?Solved

Hey everyone, I’m in a bit of a panic. Two of our company iPhones have gone missing since our team event yesterday. I’ve logged into the dashboard to try and track them, but the “Recent Location” widget is just blank.

Does anyone know why the data wouldn’t be showing up? I need to find these ASAP before the batteries die.

Oof, that’s a tough spot to be in. Have you checked if the users actually had their GPS turned on? If location sharing was toggled off on the device end before they went missing, I don’t think the dashboard can “force” it on retroactively. You might be out of luck if the policy wasn’t already active.

Hi @wilma , sorry to hear about the missing devices.

@gnishilda makes a valid point, if tracking wasn’t pre-configured, the dashboard won’t have historical data to show you. It sounds like location tracking is currently disabled for those devices. To ensure this doesn’t happen again and to attempt to ping the devices now, you need to establish a Location Tracking Policy.

Here is how you can tackle this within your dashboard:

Steps to Enable Location Tracking

  1. Navigate to Policies: Click the Policies tab in the top menu bar of your Hexnode dashboard.

  1. Configure the Policy: Create a new policy (or edit the existing one currently applied to your iPhone fleet).

  1. Enable Tracking: Locate the Location Tracking settings within the policy configuration and toggle them to On.

  1. Device-Side Permissions: Once you save the policy, the “Recent Location” widget will populate data—provided the Hexnode app on the device has “Location Services” set to Always.

Please let us know if this resolves the issue.

Mary Romero
