Hexnode MDM app crashing in kiosk modeSolved

We’re running a multi-app kiosk and after some time the kiosk just dies. The Hexnode MDM app seems to stop working and doesn’t come back unless we manually fix it.

This is a big issue for us because the kiosk is supposed to run 24/7. Does anyone have an idea what might be causing this?

This usually happens when the Hexnode MDM app itself is added as one of the “allowed apps” in a multi-app kiosk.

The main point is that the Hexnode app isn’t just another app. It’s the one that actually runs the kiosk in the background. When you add it to the allowed list, the device tries to launch the same app that’s already controlling kiosk mode. That can cause conflicts, and over time it may crash or stop responding.

So here’s what you need to do:

  • Open your Multi-App Kiosk policy

  • Remove the Hexnode MDM app from the allowed apps list

  • Save and re-apply the policy

That alone usually fixes the stability issue.

If you need access to device info or messages in kiosk don’t add the Hexnode app icon to the kiosk screen. Instead, use Peripheral Settings.

Peripheral Settings let you:

  • Open a small menu for device info (Show device and server information)

  • View admin messages (Messenger)

  • Check basic device details (Triple tap on the top-right corner of the screen to show device and server details option)

This gives you what you need without launching the Hexnode app itself, so the kiosk engine can keep running normally.
