Geofencing (5 km radius) …can Lost Mode toggle automatically?Solved

We’re planning to use geofencing for a few Android tablets kept at customer sites.
If we set a 5 km radius, will the tablet automatically go into Lost Mode when it moves out of that range… and then come back to normal when it returns?

Just want to confirm how “automatic” this gets once geofencing is set.

Geofencing will detect whether the device is compliant with the location boundary, but Lost Mode won’t toggle on its own just because the device crossed the fence.

You’ll need to set up a policy + geofence association and then use automation to decide what action happens when the device becomes location non-compliant.

Yep, think of it like this:

  • Geofence = the rule (where the device should be)
  • Lost Mode = the action (what you want to happen if it breaks the rule)

To make it work smoothly, you’d typically set up two automations:

  • When the device becomes non-compliant with the geofence → Enable Lost Mode
  • When the device becomes compliant again → Disable Lost Mode

You configure the geofence and associate the device under Admin > Geofence, then your automations handle the “enter/exit Lost Mode” logic based on compliance changes.
