Digital Signage and Remote View on Android 4.2Solved

Remote View is available from Android 5 and we cannot also use Digital Signage Display. We are looking to manage some Android 4.2 devices and set up these devices as digital signage. The devices are not receiving update from the manufacturer anymore and we are stuck with this OS.
Is there any way to implement these features?

Why don’t you try flashing an Android 5+ OS to the devices? You can start by checking if your device is compatible with the version of the Android you plan to install from http://source.android.com/compatibility/index.html . Then you can try searching for your ROM and boot loading software from XDA developers’ forums. This article might be helpful for you – http://xda-developers.com/how-to-install-custom-rom-android/

Do proceed with caution as the process could break the device if not done properly.

Hi @_patricia_, as specified in the requirements, Remote View for Android is available only from Android 5 since Google introduced the SDK required for the feature with Android 5.

Also, as for Digital Signage Kiosk, the feature is available for devices running Android 4.4 and above and you’ll need a device with the appropriate OS version to run the feature.

However, you may add your files on Hexnode and deploy them in a Single or Multi App Kiosk setup. The experience will not be as immersive as a Digital Signage Display but could be made to adapt as required to your use case. [For documents, you’ll need to add a supported third-party app to display the file (add as a Background app) since the Hexnode Document Reader app is available from Android 5.0.]
