Hey everyone,

I am running into a connectivity blocker with our deployed Samsung tablets (knox enabled) enrolled via Hexnode uem. We have these devices locked in Multi-app kiosk mode for field staff.

The issue arises when users attempt to connect to public WiFi networks (hotels, guest networks) that require authentication via a web portal. The device connects to the access point, but the redirect to the login page never triggers. It seems the Kiosk policy is suppressing the system browser or the intent required to load the splash page.

Has anyone successfully enabled captive portals on Knox devices without breaking the kiosk lockdown?

Hi Alby,

When you put android in kiosk mode, it operates on a “deny all except whitelisted” basis. Even though the Wi-Fi settings are open, the actual system app that generates that login popup isn’t on your allowed list, so Hexnode blocks it the moment it tries to launch.

To fix this, go into your kiosk policy. Alongside the apps you have already added to your multi-app kiosk, you need to whitelist these two packages:

  • com.google.android.captiveportallogin (The actual login trigger)
  • com.google.android.overlay.modules.captiveportallogin.forframework (Required for newer android versions/Knox to render the overlay correctly)

Push that policy update, and you should be good to go. That’s the perk of working with Hexnode for 3 years. Glad I could be of help!
