Can Hexnode wake Android devices from deep sleep or scan SSIDs with Periodic Sync?Solved

We’re managing rooted, non-GMS Android 14 devices and looking into options around Preferred Network Offload/PNO handling. Is there any way in Hexnode to wake a device at a specific time when it is in deep sleep? Also wondering if Periodic Sync can be changed so the device wakes up and checks whether a Wi-Fi SSID is available.

Hi @hugo_l ,

Hexnode UEM does not natively support scheduling hardware wake times or triggering a device to wake from deep sleep directly from the portal.

For rooted Android endpoints, the practical option is to handle this at the OS level. If you already have a script that modifies kernel wake alarms, such as RTC hardware alarms, or changes Doze mode behavior, Hexnode UEM can deploy that script remotely using:

Manage > Devices > Actions > Deployments > Execute Custom Script

However, Hexnode UEM itself cannot create or manage hardware-level wake schedules for Android devices from the console.

That makes sense. If we use scripts, would Periodic Sync help with Wi-Fi discovery? The goal is for the device to wake up and check if a configured SSID is nearby.

Periodic Sync cannot be configured to wake a deep-sleeping Android device specifically to scan for available Wi-Fi SSIDs.

Periodic Sync is designed to make the Hexnode UEM app check in with the Hexnode server and pull pending actions. It depends on the device already having an active network connection. It does not trigger hardware-level Wi-Fi scans while the CPU is in Doze or deep sleep.
