Android File Explorer works after restarting Hexnode for Work appSolved

Hi everyone. I was testing the File Explorer feature on an Android device enrolled with Hexnode. At first, the file access wasn’t working, and I expected the Hexnode for Work app to prompt me for the “Manage All Files” permission.

Instead, I restarted the device and opened the Hexnode for Work app again. No permission prompt ever showed up, but File Explorer suddenly started working and I could securely access all the files. Is this expected behavior? Does the app always need to display that “Manage All Files” prompt for File Explorer to function?

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out to Hexnode Connect!

Yes, this is completely expected behavior. Hexnode File Explorer simply depends on the Hexnode UEM agent (or Hexnode for Work app) initializing correctly to access the device’s storage.

If you do not see the “Manage All Files” permission prompt, it usually means the required permissions were already granted during the initial setup, were automatically handled by your Android Enterprise work profile configuration, or simply weren’t explicitly required for your specific Android OS version.

Restarting the device and manually opening the Hexnode for Work app forced the agent to properly re-initialize and sync its permission state. The prompt itself is just a troubleshooting indicator—as long as File Explorer can successfully view and manage your files, the agent has the access it needs, and no further action is required.

Best regards,
George
