BYOD Management for macOS and Windows in Hexnode UEMSolved

Hi everyone, we’re evaluating BYOD support in Hexnode UEM for both macOS and Windows devices. I’ve gone through the general documentation, but it mostly covers high-level enrollment methods.

Could someone clarify:

  • What are the actual BYOD management options available for macOS?

  • Is there a true BYOD enrollment for Windows, or any recommended workaround?

Looking for something more detailed than the standard article. Thanks!

Hey @zayn_nj BYOD works a bit differently on macOS and Windows, so I’ll break it down.

  • macOS BYOD

Hexnode supports User Enrollment (BYOD) for macOS. This method is designed specifically for personally owned Macs and focuses on user-level management instead of full device control.

With macOS User Enrollment, you can:

  • Enforce work-related policies without affecting personal data

  • Deploy apps and configurations scoped only to the managed user

  • Maintain data separation and privacy, which is key for BYOD scenarios

You can find the full setup details here: macOS User Enrollment documentation

  • Windows BYOD

Windows doesn’t currently offer a native BYOD enrollment model similar to macOS. Because of this, true BYOD management for Windows isn’t supported in the same way.

That said, there is a workaround: Hexnode supports Windows Virtual Machine enrollment, which allows organizations to manage a corporate VM running on a personal device.

This approach keeps corporate data and policies confined to the VM, leaving the host OS untouched.

Here’s the reference for that setup: Windows Virtual Machine Enrollment documentation

Makes a lot of sense. Thank you for the clarification.
