App update issueSolved

I ran into an issue while updating a couple of internal apps in Hexnode. I went to Apps > [app name] > Settings > Edit > change and uploaded a newer Apk version.

These apps were already deployed using a Required apps policy, so I wasn’t sure if I needed to re-push the policy again or if the update would happen automatically.

Also, one app, kept failing when I tried to update it with the new APK. Not sure what was going wrong there.

I faced something very similar earlier, so sharing what worked for me.

For the Required apps part, you don’t need to deploy the policy again. Once you update the APK in the app inventory, on the next device sync Hexnode checks the installed version on the device. Since the version in inventory is newer, it automatically treats it as an update and installs it.

Regarding the app failing to update, I hit that issue too. In my case, the APK wasn’t actually higher than the existing one. The version code (and version name) in the new APK must be higher than the currently installed version. If it’s the same or lower, Hexnode will fail the update.

I had to go back to our dev team and ask them to bump the APK version properly. After that, the upload and deployment worked without any issues.
