Wiped ADE device still asks to complete Hexnode enrollmentSolved

I wiped an Apple device that was enrolled through Automated Device Enrollment, but during setup it keeps asking me to complete enrollment in Hexnode. I also saw a warning that the ADE account/server assignment was removed from Hexnode.

I do not want to reenroll this device. I want it to stay completely off Hexnode. What is the right way to remove it so it stops showing the remote management/enrollment prompt?

Hello @rob_mitch ,

For an Apple device enrolled through Automated Device Enrollment, wiping the device alone is not enough if it is still assigned to the Hexnode MDM server in Apple Business.

When the device reaches Setup Assistant, it contacts Apple’s activation servers and checks its Automated Device Enrollment assignment. If it is still assigned to Hexnode, the device will continue to show the Remote Management screen and prompt for enrollment.

Recommended sequence:

  1. Disenroll the device from Hexnode UEM first, if it is still manageable from the Hexnode UEM portal.
  2. Go to Apple Business.
  3. Navigate to Devices.
  4. Search for the device using its serial number.
  5. Unassign the device from the Hexnode MDM server.
  6. Save the change.
  7. Restart the device and proceed through setup again while connected to a stable network.

This removes the device from Hexnode management and clears the Automated Device Enrollment assignment that causes the enrollment prompt.
