Lost Mode activation not showing up in reports for missing warehouse iPadSolved

Hi everyone,

We recently misplaced one of our inventory iPads (an iPad 9th Gen) somewhere in our main distribution center. As soon as the floor manager notified me, I went into the portal and triggered the Lost Mode command. However, when I pull up the device reports to verify its status for our compliance records, the activation isn’t visible anywhere.

I even checked the action history for this specific tablet, and it doesn’t show as activated there either. To give some context, the device has been offline for over a week—it was likely left in a dead zone and the battery completely drained before I was notified and sent the lock command.

Is this a syncing delay in the reporting dashboard, or does the device actually need to be online for the report to update? Any insight would be appreciated.

Hello,

Thank you for reaching out to Hexnode Connect! I understand the urgency when dealing with unaccounted inventory devices.

To answer your question directly: this is not a syncing delay or a bug. For any remote command; including Lost Mode; to register as successful in your reports and action history, the device must actively receive the payload from the server and acknowledge it. Because the iPad has been offline for a week and the battery is drained, it cannot establish a connection with the Hexnode portal to receive your command. Until the device checks in, the command will remain pending, which is why it won’t reflect in your dashboard.

If someone on the floor manages to locate the physical device, here is the exact workflow you should follow to get it properly locked and tracked in your reports:

  1. Connect the iPad to a charger and power it on.
  2. Ensure the device connects to the internet via your warehouse Wi-Fi network or an active cellular data plan.
  3. Once you confirm it has active communication with the Hexnode portal, go to the device summary page and resend the Enable Lost Mode command.
  4. Verify that the command executed successfully by checking the Action History tab for that specific iPad.
  5. Once the action shows as successful, navigate to Reports > Built-in Reports > Devices > Lost mode enabled devices. The device will now accurately populate in this report.

Feel free to come back for any assistance or issues.

Best regards,
George,
Hexnode UEM.
