When the Android Enterprise owner account disappears…….what really happens?Solved

We’ve been hit by a strange and stressful situation. Our Android Enterprise organization was originally set up using a Gmail account, and that account was suddenly deleted by Google. It’s not recoverable anymore. The devices are still in use, but now we’re unsure how this affects management going forward.
Is there any way to replace the Gmail account in Hexnode and continue managing the same devices?

Oof, that’s a rough one.

From what I understand, the Gmail or Workspace account used during Android Enterprise setup isn’t just a login, it actually owns the Android Enterprise organization itself.

If that account is gone, the organization it created on Google’s side is also gone. At that point, MDMs don’t really get a say, since the trust relationship no longer exists upstream.

Once the Gmail or Workspace account that created the Android Enterprise organization is deleted, all devices enrolled under that organization are effectively orphaned.
There’s no supported way to “swap” the owner account or attach a new Gmail account to the same organization Google doesn’t allow that transition.

So even though the devices may still be physically present and working, they can’t be recovered into a new Android Enterprise org without re-enrollment.

Exactly. And just to be clear, this isn’t something Hexnode (or any MDM) can override or repair.

Android Enterprise is tightly bound to the Google account that created it. Once that account is deleted, the only supported path forward is:

  • Create a new Android Enterprise organization using a new Gmail or managed Google Workspace account, and
  • Re-enroll the devices under that new organization.

It’s unfortunate, but it’s how Google enforces org-level ownership and security boundaries.
