Greetings everyone.
We have this requirement where we need to elevate standard users to admin temporarily. After completing the task, we want to switch them back. Doing this manually every time is a hassle, so here I am. Any wisdom from you all?
Greetings everyone.
We have this requirement where we need to elevate standard users to admin temporarily. After completing the task, we want to switch them back. Doing this manually every time is a hassle, so here I am. Any wisdom from you all?
A few years back, I handled this by pushing a script through the Execute custom script action. They already had scripts to elevate a standard user to admin and to revert an admin back to standard. I will drop the links here:
There is also another way using local user management for Windows.
Just open the device under the Manage tab, go to the Local accounts section, choose the local user, click the three dots and select the change user role action.
Honestly, I think this method is easier and cleaner.
Hi @ronnie,
Thank you for reaching out.
As @mees mentioned, both methods are valid, but we recently released the Self Service policy which is much more convenient. This allows IT admins to grant temporary admin privileges to standard users.
Users can elevate themselves to admin for a set duration configured by the admin. The elevation request is initiated directly by the end user on their Windows device through the locally installed Hexnode UEM application.
For more details, we have added the policy help doc below,

If you have any more queries, feel free to let us know.
Cheers,
Eden Pierce
