Hexnode UEM introduces Local Administrator Password Solution (LAPS) support for macOS, extending secure local administrator password management beyond Windows devices.

macOS LAPS automatically rotates local administrator passwords to reduce the risks associated with reused or long-lived credentials and to minimize exposure of privileged accounts.

Note that macOS LAPS features are available as an add-on. To learn more about availability or enablement, contact Hexnode support.

What’s included

Basic LAPS

Provides a ready-to-use configuration that creates and manages a local administrator account using recommended defaults. Administrator passwords are rotated automatically at regular intervals, with no manual configuration required.

Advanced LAPS

Available as an add-on feature, Advanced LAPS offers granular control over administrator account management through the following policies:

  • Existing Admin Accounts: Rotate passwords for existing local administrator accounts on macOS devices.
  • Managed Admin Accounts: Create and manage new local administrator accounts on a per-device basis.
  • Password Rotation Settings: Define custom password rotation intervals, rules, and complexity requirements.
  • Password Access Controls: Rotate passwords after access and restrict administrator account exposure to reduce security risks.

macOS LAPS supports both baseline security configurations and advanced administrative control, helping organizations strengthen macOS device security with minimal operational overhead.

Please note: macOS LAPS features are available as an add-on. To learn more about availability or enablement, contact Hexnode support at support@hexnode.com.
